Javelin missile

Type: system

Definition

The Javelin (FGM-148) is a man-portable, medium-range, “fire-and-forget” anti-armor missile system built by the Javelin Joint Venture (Raytheon and Lockheed Martin). It uses an imaging infrared seeker that allows the operator to lock-on before launch and then relocate after firing, and it is designed to defeat armored vehicles as well as engage targets like fortifications/bunkers (and in some descriptions, certain rotary-wing threats).
